The whole band’s brilliance shone through on "Nightshift," (my favorite) a tender 1985
hit that was reverently dedicated by Walter in remembrance of R&B legends Jackie
Wilson and Marvin Gaye. Walter pointed with fondness to the sky and reminded the
audience, "They're still up there working the nightshift and they're still singing," even
including Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince in the list of notables in the
industry that have been lost to us.
By the end of their show, turning to Walter, whom he referred to as "Mr. Brick House,"
William recounted that it's been 50 years since they started The Commodores. The
crowd gave applause and cheered with an enthusiastic roar. William added, "It feels
like it was just yesterday."
