First up and back to the stage was Will Wilde, lending his harp skills on a couple of songs
from the new album by Walter, where he filled in for the Charlie Musselwhite-inspired parts
from the album. Next came “birthday boy” Paul Long and his son Matt from the band
Catfish, fresh from working and seeing Robert Plant, as Paul works for the BBC when he is
not playing in his band for which Matt is the guitar player in the band. The last but not least
guest spots were filled by local guitarist Ben Poole and King King drummer Wayne Procter,
who were both on route to Europe for a series of gigs with Ben’s band.
As Walter and his bandmates brought
WALTER TROUT WITH MATT AND PAUL LONG the evening of exceptional music to a
captivating close, I knew that I had
been in attendance and witnessed one
of the best gigs on the pier to date – a
raucous party at which I was proud to
have been a reveler. I’d like to
acknowledge and express my
appreciation to our host, Phil Duckett,
for bringing such great and venerable
talent as Walter Trout to this wonderful
venue.
And a sincere thank you to
Walter…for coming to play in my
backyard and providing me and the
throngs in attendance, such a
memorable evening. I, too, would like
to express my thanks to the
generosity of the stranger who
donated their organ to Walter. Due to
that selfless act, Walter lives on to
play another day, allowing us to revel
this extraordinary evening of soulful
sounds. Talk about “paying it
forward” – or should I say, “playing it WALTER TROUT WITH BEN POOLE
forward”?
After all, when it comes to this thing we call “life”…we are indeed “all in this together”.
