I did get the chance to meet Vaden Todd Lewis before the show, and you could not asked for a nicer
guy. I just wish I could have spent a tad bit more time with him, simply to pick his brain for some
input for this review.
The show started at 8:00 p.m., with Local H as the supporting act. This two-piece act just tore the
roof off of Tricky. It got to the point to where I wondered if this crowd wasn’t here for Local H, as
they had this place whipped up into a frenzy…with the crowd pushing and shoving and a circle pit
that was chaotic at best. Just good ole plain fun.
The Toadies took the stage at 9:30 to an audience that reminded me of Old Yella -- rabid and foaming
at the mouth due to the unreal set by Local H. The stage was set for one outrageous rock
concert…and this audience was primed. Lewis hit the ground running with “Take Me Alive,” and
never took his foot off the gas for the next 90 minutes…except for a quick slug of a beer between
songs.
The Toadies served a mix of music from various albums, however, the crowd at Tricky
went zagnuts when the band performed “Possum Kingdom” and “I Come From The
Water.” I even lowered the camera to soak in such classics. This is Top 40 FM from the
90’s, and you would have to have lived under a rock not to recognize these epic tunes.
“Possum Kingdom” has been ingrained in my head for decades. It makes me
happy to see a band with this much rich history still doing their thing --
touring and giving their fans a much needed dose of Texas-bred Rock and
Roll.
