It may have been 1999 or 2000, that I saw the Toadies at the State Theatre in downtown St.
Petersburg, Florida. What I remember was a super packed venue with no AC, thus, the joint was like
a furnace and I was soaked to the skin with sweat. So it was with much relief that I learned that The
Toadies were arriving in El Paso, Texas on September 19th…and that they chose an air conditioned
venue, Tricky Falls, at which to appear. You can bet that I never broke a sweat while reaching out to
request credentials to cover this show for ION Indie Magazine. And it was pretty “cool” that I was
approved.
The Toadies are Texas Boys, straight out of Ft. Worth. The group formed in
‘89, but broke up in ’01, only to reunite. They released their debut album in
’94, “Rubberneck,” which produced 6 singles, with “Possum Kingdom” being
the most popular track off that album. Their style is alternative rock with a
splash of grunge thrown in for good measure. In my opinion, the band really
encompasses the 90’s rock sound. Cumulatively, they boast 7 releases in 23
years. Their newest offering, “The Lower Side Of Uptown,” was released this
year, and spawned this tour to support this latest endeavor.
