CREDIT TRANSFER OFFICE
WHAT WE DO
Simply, we enter and articulate credits onto a student record that are NOT a direct result of a course taken at
KSU. If you didn’t sit in a course at Kent State, but you are getting credit for it, then our office enters it onto
the student’s record. For example, we review and enter the following to a student’s record:
• Undergraduate transfer credits to a student record, including
o credits taken before entering Kent State and
o planned credits taken after being enrolled at Kent State
o Note that international courses have an initial verification/evaluation through OGE first
• Military coursework and military tests from all branches of the armed forces
• Testing credits, including AP, IB, Alevels, CLEP, CBE, and others
• Career-Technical credits taken while in High School
• Certificate credits, such as Private Pilot Certification credits
• Graduate transfer credits, as approved via the Graduate Studies office
We also oversee transfer course/credit reviews, compliance with university and statewide policies, and
system maintenance of all transfer records. All courses reviewed by one of our staff, or sent to us by
academic units, are recorded in our Transfer Articulation System. This is viewable via our Transfer Credit
Guide (www.kent.edu/transferguide) and is the crosswalk for articulating all transfer coursework.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
• Advise students on how their transfer or alternative credits will count towards their degree
programs, or give them direction regarding student services. (This includes minimum grade
requirements for major courses.) Students receive a confirmation email that their evaluation is
completed once credits are entered and it refers them to advisors and other services on campus.
Prospective students are advised by the Transfer Advisors in the Admissions office. Prospective
transfer students can be directed to them for help at transferadvising@kent.edu.
• Review GPS audits, exceptions workflow, or University requirements. However, the transfer courses
we put onto student records are used in GPS requirements and we do communicate often with the
GPS office to ensure these courses are falling into the proper areas.
• Establish or approve articulation agreements. Articulation Agreements must go through a specific
procedure which is guided by the Articulation Agreement supervisor at Kent State. We do perform a
final review of the course to course equivalencies for policy compliance. Upon final approval, the
course-to-course rules then get added to our Transfer Credit Guide with ‘RVWD’.
• Enter archived Kent State coursework for Pre-1979 courses. Pre-79 archived work which is
documented in the registrar archives (but not on a student’s record) is entered manually by the
Registrar.
• Manage review of graduate transfer credits. The evaluation and approval to transfer graduate credits
is managed by the Graduate Studies office. See their website for further info.
