PRE-FRESHMAN CREDITS

There are three types of college credit that can be earned while still in High School and/or before their first freshman
        term in college.
        Awarded Credit

High school advanced topics coursework can be awarded college credit hours via an exam score report sent from the
exam provider. Kent State awards credit for these three types:

            • AP - Advanced Placementv (see www.kent.edu/credittransfer for chart)
            • IB - International Baccalaureate (see www.kent.edu/credittransfer for chart)
            • AL - Advanced-levels
A-levels are less common and do not have a standard equivalency chart developed yet. These have traditionally
been offered overseas, but are now becoming more standard in the U.S. They are currently undergoing review
by faculty and a crosswalk will be posted in the future.
        Transcripted Credit

This includes any course taken as a college-level course and credit is graded on an official college transcript. These
credits look very much like regular transfer work on a student record.

            • College Credit Plus (CCP), previously called PSEOP, may also be called “Dual Enrollment” or “Concurrent
Enrollment”. Students must submit transcripts for credit. (www.kent.edu/ccp)

        Articulated Credit
This refers to a high school course that is aligned to college course credit through career-technical articulation
agreements, and submitted via the school counselor. This means the student is not enrolled in a college, but gets
college credit hours because it is a career tech program approved by the State of Ohio.

Note: Students/Counselors must confirm if an agreement for their program already exists with their preferred Ohio
College! Not every college will have a matching course at the institution (ex: we do not have an automotive program), so
not all institutions offer matched credit for that HS program.

            • CTAG Credits, a.k.a. Career Tech credits and CT2 credits. These are Ohio statewide equivalencies for career
technical programs. To get these credits, the student must complete the courses and requirements, then the
high school/career-tech school will submit the proper data to the Ohio Department of Higher Education to
show they passed all requirements for credit. Kent State then receives this information from ODHE.
            • Tech Prep Agreements, a.k.a. “bilateral articulation agreements”, are setup through the Ohio College Tech Prep
regional office. To get these credits, the student must complete the courses and requirements, then the high
school/career tech school will submit the proper form to Kent State to show they passed all requirements for
credit. “Project Lead The Way” is also included in various Tech Prep Agreements. (See www.kent.edu/techprep
               for all agreements.)

Please note that transferability of credit does not determine applicability of courses to a student’s major program.
Program applicability is overseen by the college of the program, not the Credit Transfer Office.
