• Advise when to return: if fever worsens or persists, if shortness of breath develops, if
symptoms last more than 10 days or worsen instead of improving.
• Remind: good hygiene reduces spread—wash hands, cover coughs/sneezes, avoid close
contact especially with vulnerable people.
• For children especially: check age and weight before giving any OTC cold meds; many
products are not recommended for very young children.
• Stress that antibiotics are not required unless asked; pharmacist can explain “viruses
don’t respond to antibiotics” to reduce misuse.
