• Show how to apply ice/compression safely (e.g., 15-20 min every 2-3 h in first day).
• Emphasise correct analgesic use: e.g., take with food if NSAID, don’t exceed
recommended dose, avoid combining multiple NSAIDs.
• Review patient’s other meds and comorbidities (e.g., avoid NSAIDs if gastric ulcer, kidney
disease, etc).
• Advise: return to activity gradually, avoid abrupt heavy loading; listen to pain signals.
• Encourage ergonomics: e.g., correct desk posture, take breaks, stretch.
• Warn on red flags: if numbness/tingling, weakness, bladder/bowel changes → seek medical
evaluation.
• Reinforce: If pain doesn’t improve within expected timeframe (e.g., 1-2 weeks) or worsens
→ refer.
• Encourage documentation of pain severity/timing/triggers to help clinician if referral
becomes necessary.
