Enemas

"My friend suggests me enemas as a rapid treatment for constipation, what do they
contain? What are their advantages?"

Local products that are installed into the rectum with the use of an enema syringe.

Advantage: The medication is directly applied where it is needed, minimizing
systemic toxicity.
Onset of action: 2-15 minutes.
Contents: Saline laxative as sodium phosphate, warm water, Epsom salt or sorbitol.
The large volume of water stimulates peristalsis. The patient should retain the
solution for five to ten minutes, if possible.
