B - The lysergic acid amides; and these are amide alkaloids that
are derived from lysergic acid. Again this amide alkaloids class
can be further distinguished into two subclasses:
i- The simple lysergic acid amides; that are built up of
lysergic acid and a simple amine.
ii- The polypeptide alkaloids; that are complex amides of
lysergic acid with several (three) different amino acids.
The clavine alkaloids
The names of the alkaloids of this class all end in ( –clavine),
e.g. agroclavine, elemoclavine and penniclavine….etc.
They are all simple water-soluble bases. They are not as
physiologically active as the lysergic acid derivatives, so they are
of little medicinal value. Few examples have been shown recently
to have significant oxytocic activity.
