Standard Solutions
Definition: standard solution is a solution of known COMPOSITION AND
CONCENTRATION
Types of standard solutions (according to purity)
a. Primary Standard (1ry) b. Secondary Standard (2ry)
Requirements for primary standards:
[1] Must be highly pure.
[2] Must be easily tested for impurity if present.
[3] Must be stable, i.e. not absorb H2O or CO2.
[4] Must react with sample quantitatively according to
a balanced chemical equation. i.e. react Stoichiometrically.
[5] Must be readily soluble.
[6] Should have high equivalent weight.
