2- Mother clove (berry):
It is the ripe fruit of clove. It is ovoid, brown, about 12
mm long and unilocular containing a single seed (only one ovule
of the numerous ovules present in the bilocular ovary develops
into a seed).
It can be detect in powdered clove by the presence of
abundant starch from which clove by the presence of abundant
starch from which clove is free.
3- Exhausted cloves:
It is clove free from all or most of oil which has been
removed by steam distillation.
It can be detected by being darker; much shrunken and
float on surface of water.
