1- Clove stalk:
The main axis of the inflorescence shows opposite
decussate branching and is called clove stalk. It is brownish,
rough and irregularly wrinkled longitudinally with less pleasant
odour and yields about 5% volatile oil. It can be detected in
powdered clove by presence of
a- Isodiameteric thick-walled sclereids from the cortex.
b- Prisms of calcium oxalate from the cortex and pith.
c- Starch granules from the pith.
