9. Medicinal leaves mainly used as Diuretic and for
Urinary tract complaints:

                             BUCHU LEAVES

Buchu is the dried leaves of Barosma betulina family Rutaceae. It
should contain not less than 2.00% of volatile oil.

Constituents:
 -Volatile oil: It contains up to 2.50% volatile oil consists mainly
 of the phenolic ketone, diosphenol. It also contains L-methone
 (responsible for the peppermint like odor).
 -Flavonoids: flavone glycosides diosmin and hesperidin.

Uses:
 -The oil is diuretic due to diosphenol and urinary tract
 antiseptic, also used for urethritis and prostatitis.
 -Diosmin and hesperidin are used for the treatment of capillary
 fragility and other peripheral vascular disorders, so used in the
 treatment of varicose veins and different types of bleedings.
Precautions:
Pregnant & lactating women: Avoid use.

                           UVA URSI LEAVES
                             (Bearberry leaves)

Bearberry leaves consists of the dried leaves of Arctostaphylos
uva-ursi family Ericaceae.

Constituents:
 -Phenolic glycosides arbutin and methyl arbutin (5.00-
 15.00%). It contains also the free aglycone, hydroquinone and
 methyl hydroquinone.
 -Tannins.
