Uses:
-It is used as diuretic antiseptic and anti-inflammatory for
infection of genitor urinary tract (due to phenolic glycocsides and
their aglycones).
-The tannin act as an astringent.
Precautions:
Children: Contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Liver damage in pediatrics was related to administration of the
drug over extended periods due to the possible hepatotoxicity of the
hydroquinones released.
Pregnant & lactating women: Avoid use.
10. Medicinal leaves used as circulatory stimulant:
GINKGO LEAVES
The leaves are obtained from dieceous tree of ginkgo biloba family
Ginkgoaceae.
Constituents:
1. Flavonoids: derivatives of quercetin and kaempferol.
2. Biflavonoids: ginkgetin and bilobetin.
3. Terpene lactones: ginkgolides A, B and C.
Uses:
1. It is used as circulatory stimulant (increasing the blood flow) so
it is used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and enhancing
memory.
2. It acts as antioxidant as it prevents membrane damage caused by
free radicals by acting as free radical scavenger.
