➢The constructing units (or building blocks) for secondary
metabolites are derived from primary metabolism.
➢The number of such units is surprisingly few.
Nevertheless, a very large collection of compounds can
be assembled from them.
➢Compounds can be built up by combining several units
of the same / different types.
