2-Pyrogens and endotoxin limit
The endotoxin limit for human administration is limited to 5
endotoxin
Units USP per kg per hr (in case of infusion ) for IV administration .
3- Adsorption to the container or dispensing can lea to reduced
dose or potency administered to the patient .Use silicone-coated
low- adsorption containers .
Certain isotopes have short half life ,e.g.99 m Tc and 113m In . The
parenteral formulations of these radioisotopes must be prepared in
the clinic under aseptic conditions, jmmediately before
administration to the patient .
Institutions , such as hospitals ,that handles radioisotopes have
medical isotope committee to carefully guide ,monitor ,& control the
handling of the radioisotopes to maintain patient & user safety .The
committee is charged with the responsibility to define the specific
details of radioisotopes use & disposal, such facilities ,such as storage
requirements ,inventory requirements , & personnel procedure.
Calculations
Caiculations are important for:
1-Dispensing or administering the right dose to patient.
2-For the laboratory researcher to use the right amount of the
radioactive material.
3-The phenomenon of radioactive decay necessitates an
understanding of changing the radioactive activity over a period of
time.Half life of radionuclide is the time taken for half of the
radionuclide’s to atoms to decay
