     Clinical Aspects of Glycolysis
1- Pyruvate kinase deficiency:
• This leads to excessive hemolysis of RBCs leading to
   hemolytic anemia.
• Genetic deficiency of PK leads to decrease in rate of
   glycolysis and decrease production of ATP. ATP is
   required for Na-K ATPase which is important for the
   stability of RBCs.
2- Hexokinase deficiency:
• Similar mechanism as PK       92
