Targeted Drug Delivery

• Aims to control the distribution of a drug within the
body such that the majority of the dose is delivered
selectively to the target tissues at cellular or
subcelluar level

• Consider the benefits of targeting chemotherapeutic
drug to cancer cells.

• Drug candidates that benefit mostly from targeted
delivery are those with:

– narrow therapeutic index
– Non specific pharmacological action
