Purity tests:
Foreign Matter: Not more than 2%.
Total Ash: Not more than 7%.
Ash Insoluble in Hydrochloric: Not more than 7%.
Constituents:
1- Pungent principle Capsaicin located in dissepiment.
2- Red coloring matter capsanthin located in mesocarp
3- Flavonoids. Fixed oil, proteins,etc… Uses:
1-Externally: in preparations as rubefacient and counter irritant.
2- Internally: stomachic in dyspepsia.
Hops (Strobilus Lupuli)
Hops consists of the dried strobiles or inflorescences of the female plants of Humulus
lupulus family Cannabaceae.
Synonyms: Humulus, Lupulus.
Geographical distribution:
Hops is distributed in Europe, Asia and North America.
It is cultivated widely in the temperate zones of the world.
Description:
Staminate flowers: with five bracts and five stamens, borne in axillary panicles.
Pistillate flowers: pale green, each consisting of an entire cup-like perianth and a
unilocular ovary with a single ovule,and two long stigmas, borne on a leafy conical catkin.
Fruits: arc ovate to ovate-cylindrical strobiles consisting of a rachis bearing
yellowishgreen to pale brown, ovate, membranous, scaly bracts, each enclosing a brown
glandular achene.
Strobiles: ovoid-cylindrical or cone-like,leafy, 3-4 cm long and up to 3 cm wide, consisting
of a narrow, hairy, flexuous rachis and numerous imbricated, yellowish-green to dusky
