B. Oleo-gum-resins:
1. Myrrh ()اﻟﻤﺮ
Definition:
It is the oleo-gum-resin obtained from the trunk and branches of
Commiphora molmol Family: Burseraceae.
Constituents:
• 7-17 % volatile oil.
• 25- 40% resin (α, β, γ-commiphoric acid).
• 57- 61 % gum.
Uses:
• Oil of myrrh was used as one of several plant products in the process of
chemical treatment as an essential part of mummification process
• Topical treatment of mild inflammations of the oral and pharyngeal
mucosa.
• As a gargle or mouth rinse for the treatment of pharyngitis, tonsillitis,
common cold and gingivitis.
• Mirazid ® contain myrrh used to control shistosomiasis
2- Olibanum ( اﻟﻜﻨﺪر-)ذﻛﺮ اﻟﻠﺒﺎن
Definition:
It is the oleogumresin obtained from Bosiwella carterii family:
Burseraceae.
Uses:
1. Treatment of bronchial asthma.
2. Treatment of osteoarthritis.
