- It has carminative, stomachic, expectorant, antispasmodic and laxative
properties.
- Traditional use: in neurological afflictions ex. Facial paralysis
- It is now employed in veterinary medicine and of little use in human
medicine.
- A 2% suspension is applied as repellent against dogs, cats, rabbits, etc……
- It reduces the growth of indigenous micro-flora in the gut, reducing
flatulence.
Contraindications:
- Not to be given to infant up to 1 year it causes methemoglobinemia.
- Should be avoided in pregnancy as it might cause abortion
