Theme of Gurmat Book 6: Gurmat Sikhia means the learning from our Guru’s wisdom.
Lives of Gurus and Gusikhs from the past teach us the Sikh way of life. Whether we
are acting alone or in a society, Gurus’ wisdom must become the basis of our conduct.

When we are ready to take an action, we must consider Gurmat as our guide and
decide whether that action is aligned with Sikhi principles. Ask yourself, “If Guru Ji
was watching me, would I do this?” Remember that Guru Ji is always watching you.
Guru is with us all the time.

Shaheedi is a significant part of Sikh history. We learn that sometimes, one has to
sacrifice one life to uphold the values you stand for. Our Gurus gave Shaheedi; many
of Guru Ji’s Sikhs sacrificed their lives to uphold their principles. You will learn about
               Shaheeds in this book.

Most of the learning happens when we interact with the text, but we develop deeper
understanding when we analyze and see how the lessons we learn apply to our daily
lives. This year, you will research 5 topics of your choice. What is that you think
about? What bothers you? What makes you feel proud? You may write an essay, make
a presentation, and make a PowerPoint or a poster. What Sikhi concept do you want to
teach others? Starting with Week 20, you will present your reports in class.
