Lesson 1: A Shabad for Everyday

You have been learning Gurbani for several years now. You have memorized
much of Japuji Sahib. You have learned a few Shabads from Guru Granth

Sahib. Gurbani is the wisdom that guides us in our everyday expressions. All

Gurbani is melodious, beautiful and great to listen to and read. But sometimes,
we understand the meanings of some Shabads more than the others.

There are times when you feel sad, scared or sick. Sometimes you have

someone to talk to. Sometimes you can take some medicine and feel better. But

sometimes, nothing matters. In that situation if you do Paath, listen to Kirtan
or recite a Shabad, you feel better.

For example, if I or someone in my family is sick, I recite the Shabad Avir

aupwv siB iqAwigAw dwrU nwmu lieAw] When I am reciting this Shabad, I feel better
and hopeful. I feel the healing energy of Naam, of Shabad, of Waheguru.

If I am scared, I recite the Shabad qwqI vwauu n lgeI pwrbRhm srnweI] This Shabad

makes me feel that Guru is close to me. Nothing can harm me. I feel protected.
Here is one Shabad that will help uplift your spirits. Read it. Memorize it Learn

the meanings. Copy it on the next page. Say it before sleeping every day.
