bhu-vwck Sbd Grammar Rules: Plural Words

             Grammar Point: Plural Rules: There are many rules for changing singular words
             into plurals. Notice that in Punjabi, all parts of speech can be changed to plurals.

             You will need to memorize these rules. Try saying iek kuVI, do kuVIAW, im`Tw
             l`fU- im`Ty l`fU, QoVw-QoVy Awid[

                       Singular to Plural Rules Examples You Try
             Rule  1:  Some  words  that  end  in  Mukta   b~dl =  b~dl                pirvwr=
             (no Matra) do not change when they
             are plurals.                                                              Asmwn=

             Rule 2: The masculine words that end in pjwmw= pjwmy swfw =
             a ‘Kanna’, lose the ‘Kanna’ and get a
             ‘Laanv’ when we make them plurals. mldw=
                                                                                       qwrw=

             Rule 3: Many feminine (girl) words geI= geIAW A~DI=
             usually end in a Bihaari. We add an
             Aida+ Kanna with a Bindi when we make Ku~lI=
             them plurals.
                                                                                       geI=

             Rule 4: Some feminine nouns end in a            l~q=          l~qW        rwq=
             Mukta (no Matra). We add a Kanna and
             Bindi when we make them plurals. imswl=

                                                                                       A~K=

             Rule 5: This is a complex rule- the most AwieAw = boilAw=
             difficult to remember. Some masculine AwieAw = Awey

             nouns have the ie or i and they end in pu~iCAw=
             Aw. We remove ie+Aw, or i+Aw, and
                                                            igAw=                      mwirAw=
             add ey or y when we make them plurals.
                                                            igAw=          gey
