Grammar Point: Plural Rules: There are many rules for changing singular words
into plurals. Notice that in Punjabi, all parts of speech can be changed to plurals.

Singular to Plural Rules Examples You Try
Rule 1: Some words that end in Mukta b~dl = b~dl pirvwr=
(no Matra) do not change when they
are plurals. Asmwn=
Rule 2: The masculine words that end in pjwmw= pjwmy swfw =
a ‘Kanna’, lose the ‘Kanna’ and get a
‘Laanv’ when we make them plurals. mldw=

Rule 3: Many feminine (girl) words geI= geIAW A~DI=
usually end in a Bihaari. We add an
Aida+ Kanna with a Bindi when we make Ku~lI=
them plurals.

Rule 4: Some feminine nouns end in a l~q= l~qW rwq=
Mukta (no Matra). We add a Kanna and
Bindi when we make them plurals. imswl=

Rule 5: This is a complex rule- the most AwieAw = boilAw=
difficult to remember. Some masculine AwieAw = Awey
nouns have the ie or i and they end in pu~iCAw=
Aw. We remove ie+Aw, or i+Aw, and

add ey or y when we make them plurals.
