Theme of Gurmat Book 7: Gurmat is Gurus’ Wisdom. Our goal is to initiate young Sikhs

into Gurmat study. You have learned so much about the Sikh Guru Sahibaan, the history
of the Sikhs, and have learned to recite Gurbani. Living according to Gurbani is the
foundation of a Sikh way of life. All the Gurbani we recite is enshrined in Guru Granth
Sahib. This year, you have a unique opportunity to learn about Guru Granth Sahib, the
structure, the headings, Naam, Naam Simran, Shabad, the many Banis including Japuji
Sahib, Rehras Sahib, Anand Sahib, Sohila, and about Ardas. Knowing about these Banis
will fill you with desire to learn more and recite these Banis. These foundational
understandings will provide a solid base for your character and make you a person you
will love and the world will respect.

Most of the learning happens when we interact with the text actively, when we analyze
what we read and see how it applies to our daily lives. This year, you will read about
many topics in Gurmat Books as well as Punjabi Reader books. You will research 5 topics
of your choice. What is that you think about in Sikhi? What bothers you? What makes
you feel proud? You may write an essay, make a PowerPoint, poster, or any other project.
Starting with Week 21, you will start presenting these topics in class.
