**Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa!
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!**
It is my pleasure and honor to
welcome participants, parents,
judges, coordinators, volunteers,
and guests from London, U.K.;
Kenya, and various parts of
America who have come to San
Jose, California, for yet another
international program.
The Foundation was established
in 1980 to teach Sikh history and
Gurmat Sangeet, with an
emphasis on using string
instruments that were used by
Guru Jee themselves or were used in their times. Children are also helped in conveying their story
via digital media.
My journey with the Foundation started in 1986 when my younger son, Jaspal Singh, participated in
the 2nd age group. While he did not win first place, he learned valuable lessons. Besides getting
an opportunity to practice public speaking skills, he learned the spiritual, moral, and religious
teachings of Sikhi. The communication skills developed at a young age have given him the
confidence to address a gathering of thousands with ease. The Sikhi concepts learned early on
have provided him with the confidence to explain Sikhi to those who do not know anything about it.
The element of competition is good; it helps one strive to do better. However, I urge participants
and parents not to overly focus on winning, but on the values that one learns by participating in
the program.
I was impressed with the mission of the Foundation. I started volunteering and have seen the
children grow and blossom in every facet of their personality. It has motivated me to stay with
the Foundation. I request alumni and parents to get involved, support and share responsibilities
to keep the programs of the Foundation going for a long time.
