k - 5 Kakaar Craft
The 5 kakaars, all starting with k, remind us of our Sikh identity and help us
remember Vaheguru.
A. If possible, bring a kara, kangha, kirpan and kachhera to class for display.
B. Hold up the coloring sheets of Super Singh and Super Kaur, then ask the
children about their favorite superhero. Inquire about the special attributes
that make superheroes identifiable. What special things do superheroes
wear?
C. Explain to the students that, like superheroes, Sikhs wear a special uniform
granted by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This uniform symbolizes our special
powers, encouraging us to always be brave and strong. What is our special
uniform?
D. Introduce each kakaar, show the children the samples and explain what each
one signifies (you may use the sheet the students will use for the craft). It is
best to keep the explanations short and simple.
E. You may also ask the children or the adult that accompanied them to class, if
they wear any of the 5 kakaar. Most children will be wearing a kara and will
proudly hold up their hand.
F. If an adult or child is wearing all 5 kakaars, ask them to show the class where
each one is worn on their body.
