h - Haha Hathi Craft


            A. The hathi headband is a favorite among students.They love walking around
                the Gurdwara Sahib proudly showcasing their creations.
            B. Once they are done with the craft, you may engage the students in Yoga

                stretches by teaching them the hathi pose; stretches legs, back and calms
                the mind.


            Materials:
               - Photocopy of hathi sheet with ears and trunk (provided in student
                   handbook)
               - 2 strips of craft paper cut into 2x11inch rectangles

               - Glue
               - Crayons
               - Tape
            Method:
               1. Show children a sample of the craft and a picture of a hathi.  Encourage
                    the children to describe the hathi in Punjabi.  How many legs, eyes, tail,
                    trunk does a hathi have.  What color is the hathi?
               2. Color the hathi ears and trunk.
               3. Cut out the ears and trunk.

               4. Glue enough strips of craft paper together so they fit around the child’s
                    head. Fold in half to determine the center.
               5. Glue the trunk to the center point of the strip.
               6. Glue ears to either side of the trunk so they are able to flop back and forth.
               7. Tape the strip to form a crown, it should fit snuggly around the head.















            Hathi Stretch:
               1. Bend at the hips and allow upper body and arms to hang freely.
               2. With arms hanging towards the floor freely, clasp hands.
               3. Begin swinging arms from side to side like a trunk.

               4. Swing upper body side to side along with the arms and begin walking like
                    a hathi.
