t - Tainka Tokri
The t tokri/subzi mandi craft offers an opportunity to reinforce the vocabulary that
students have previously learned while introducing new words.
A. This week, the focus will be on tokrI and tmwtr, with a review of gwjr and KIrw
from previous lessons. Consider the craft a matching puzzle and allow the
students to work as independently as possible for optimal learning.
B. When introducing the craft to the students in the first circle time, have the
subzi cut outs pre-prepared and ask the children if they can identify each one,
describe it in Punjabi if they are able. Explore which akhar each one begins
with and which tokri each one belongs to.
C. As all the subzis (vegetables) we will be exploring make delightful snacks,
consider bringing in a special treat for the students—such as baby carrots,
cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers—if time and resources allow. You may also
bring along a tokri to share. This will not only enhance their learning but also
add a fun and interactive element to the session.
Materials:
- Print out of the Subzi Mandi and carrot, tomato and cucumber sheet
(provided in student handbook)
