Education Plan Requirements
Alberta Education does not routinely collect or review individual school plans. It is the responsibility of each school board, as part of its accountability system, to ensure the following:
•Each school updates its education plan annually;
•Each school involves the school council in updating the plan; and
•Each school posts its plan on the school’s or school authority’s website.
Note:
Each school within the school authority must maintain an educa- tion plan that reflects and aligns with the school board’s 3-4 YEP. As part of its accountability system, each board outlines its own requirements for the process, content and format for school educa- tion plans.
Section 12 of the School Councils Regulation requires school boards to give school councils the opportunity to provide advice on the development of school education plans.
•EPs will be due on May 31 for the upcoming school year.
•EPs must be developed for a minimum of three years but can cover a longer time frame.
•School authorities are expected to conduct community en- gagement efforts and articulate how stakeholder feedback informed system priorities.
•A direct connection must be made between the most recent analysis of provincial and local measures in the AERR and how this information was used to determine goals, priorities and areas of focus in the EP.
•Priorities and outcomes identified in the EP are clearly con- nected to the relevant Assurance Domain(s).
•Provincial strategic priorities, outlined in section K of the Funding Manual, are addressed in the EP.
•Education’s Business Plan priorities are considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the EP.
•There is evidence that research and practice- informed strategies have been implemented.
•Education plans (EP) are to be posted on your school au- thority website by May 31, the same time as your school au- thority’s annual budget submission.
•School authorities must also notify the appropriate Field Services Branch Director of the posting.
