Onam is an annual Hindu festival and a
major harvest celebration in Kerala, India,
celebrated during the Malayalam month of
Chingam (August-September). The festi-
val commemorates the homecoming of the
mythical King Mahabali, who is beloved
for his generosity and just rule. Onam is a
10-day event marked by vibrant festivities
including traditional floral rangolis (Pooka-
lam), grand feasts (Onam Sadhya), boat races
(Vallam Kali), tiger dances (Pulikali), and
communal singing and dancing.
