all will differ in one way or another. The emphasis is on
understanding the connections between human behav-
ior and the natural world. There is a focus on building
an awareness of the interdependence between hu-
mans and the rest of the ecosystem.
How is it different from traditional schooling, you
ask? In conventional schooling, there is a forced sep-
aration between learning and activities. With forest
school, children are encouraged to interact with the
natural environment through hands-on activities out-
side, thereby connecting fun to learning. This approach
in education is one of the biggest differences it has
from typical schooling.
So, why would parents send their kids to a na-
ture-based education school or nursery? Parents have
been sending their children to physical classrooms for
many years now. Although they have received some
criticism for not being hands-on enough regarding
education– in other words, they have been said to be
too “fun” based and not enough about learning, this is
a paradig shift in the way schooling goes. Kids learn
best by doing and they can better understand the world
around them if they learn with it, not by reading about
plants. With forest school, children learn about nature
right in their early years. They get introduced to it as
they play, and that engagement in nature is one of the
best ways to learn about the natural environment in its
true form.
So, what is the best part of this model? This model
combines traditional education purposes with hands-
on activities, which allows them to learn in a fun way
and at a young age. This mix of engaging learning and
outdoor experiences is what makes it so unique. The
physical education component of it is what is known
as the foundation of its holistic development model. If
you want to encourage your child in a holistic develop-
ment way, then it may be the best model to choose.
