Congratulations to Green Tree Volunteer Fire Company Chief Don Gaupp for 25 years of dedicated service with the re com- pany. Council honored Chief Gaupp with Resolution #1284 at the August 2nd meeting. The GTVFC is always looking for new volunteers. If you would like to learn more about the Green Tree Volunteer Fire Company, please join us at our weekly meet- ings on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at the re station.
Green Tree held its National Night Out event at the re station on August 3rd. A good turnout of residents met with our local Police Department, Fire Company, and Emergency Medical Ser- vices, exploring the emergency vehicles and getting to know the community’s rst responders better. Thank you, Chief Cleary, for organizing this successful annual event.
The annual Sportsman’s Bash will not take place this year due to a number of unexpected issues and changes. The GTVFC hopes to be able to continue this popular fundraiser again in 2022 and is working on ways to make this happen.
School is back in session and we remind residents to slow down throughout Green Tree, stop for ashing red lights on school buses, and keep our children safe.

Another summer is winding down and the leaves will be starting to change and then drop to the ground. Green Tree takes those leaves and recycles them to produce a great mulch. Mulch breaks down over the years to produce a rich top soil. You will see public works in the fall collecting the leaves from the front of the lawns close to the street.
Infrastructure planning is underway and the Trumbull Drive Bridge replacement project has begun its planning stage. Green Tree awarded a contract for engineering services to Gannett Fleming, Inc. for $233,296. It appears that bridge reconstruction could start as early as next year.
Casper Colosimo & Son providing work for the Borough under its new contract.
Council awarded a contract extension for one-year to Casper Colosimo & Son to perform sewer and street maintenance. This is the fourth contract extension since 2017 and includes a 4.2% increase this year (based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index), due to in ation. This was the largest increase in sewer maintenance services in over ten years.
Council also passed Resolution #1282 requiring Green Tree to adopt Allegheny County’s 2020 hazard mitigation plan. Failure to adopt the mitigation plan could result in Green Tree not being eligible for future, pre- and post-disaster hazard mitigation funds.
Green Tree is a member of the Char West Council of Govern- ments (COG). This organization consists of 14 communities in the surrounding area. Each community sends two delegates to the COG, one primary delegate and an alternate. The representatives
share ideas on what works or doesn’t work for their communities and this helps with coordinated planning and technical assis- tance between municipalities. Council of Governments membership increases municipal buying power for commodities such as road salt and helps municipalities secure Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) by assisting with the application process, bidding, and processing of the payments on awarded projects.
Street paving will be taking place in Green Tree shortly with $300,000 budgeted this year to repave the roads. Last year the paving was put on hold because of the pandemic, so now the borough will be playing catch up for the roads that are in need of repair.
