A New Skin
The home’s original
siding was T1-11
plywood, which was
later covered with
thin-coat stucco.
Crews stripped
everything down
to the studs, then
applied one-coat
stucco over Tyvek
Drainwrap. This went
over 1-1/2 inches of
DuPont Thermax (c.i.)
polyiso continuous
insulation. The polyiso,
foam and stucco lath
were attached with
Grip-Deck TubeSeal
fasteners and Grip-
Plate lath fasteners Dead-End In the primary bedroom, the previous owners removed
from TRUFAST Walls. a fireplace, but never bothered to remove, cap, or
Chimney seal the fireplace flue, creating a massive “hole” that
allowed summer heat to penetrate the space. This roof
area was removed and replaced with a second story.
Rush Job Constricted Here is the family room’s main HVAC trunk line. Notice how they
Flow reduced the size of the duct to fit under a support beam, substan-
tially reducing the flow and output.
The four studs
shown, and the
6-by-6 inch post,
support a 40-foot
roof beam span.
Note, however
the deep notches
in two places,
halfway through
the studs, with no
protective plates.
This wall had to
be replaced.
