trance-like, Karyn eased up on his back. The wind
tossed her short, auburn hair about her face and neck as
she took the animal over small foothills dotted with
evergreens and through fields of knee-high goldenrod.
She left the entire world behind and was floating
alone through a gentle fog of security and acceptance.
Never before had she felt so free and so sure of herself.
Forgotten was the stress and anxiety of the corporate
world. Far away was the criticism and judgment of
those who didn't know her heart and, worse, didn't care.
Gone were the accusing stares and constant internal
lectures about her worthlessness and inability to succeed
at every attempt to move her life forward. It was
heaven realized.
Karyn rode for about twenty minutes when a mild
rain began to fall. The silken mist landed delicately
upon her body and bathed her face with tiny drops of
perfection, calming her head's bewilderment. It
affected her so that she looked toward the night sky and
began to giggle out loud. It was a laugh of
wonderment that exploded from her with heady
excitement. She thought it amusing that this had truly
become a weekend of healing and cleansing.
On the hill upon which the house sat, Karyn caught
sight of Jacob watching her. Startled at first, but
pleased just the same, it was like something out of an old
movie. There he stood in the evening rain, in just his
sweat pants, watching her revel in the unity and peace
she discovered. She didn’t know how long he'd been
standing there, but she delighted in a sumptuous
sensuality, knowing that he indeed watched her. It was
a sensation she never thought she'd find.
