                  Laboratory diagnosis

1- Microscopic examination of eggs in stool (S. Mansoni) or in urine (S.

                      haematobium)

Since eggs may be passed in small amounts their detection may enhanced by

repeated examination or concentration procedures (formaline ethylacetate technique)

                      2- Kato Katz Technique:

                         – For enumeration of eggs

                         – Most commonly used for evaluating epidemiology, effect of control measures,

                            drug trials

                      3- Immunodiagnosis

                         – Indirect hemagglutination using adult worm and egg antigens

                         – Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) using soluble antigens of

                          adults and eggs.
