                   Definitive host                       -    Sheep, cattle (pig) and man.


                   Intermediate host                     -    The snail Lymnea truncatula in case of  F.

                                                         hepatica and L. cailaudi in case of F. gigantica

                   Infective stage                       -    Encysted metacercaria


                   Mode of transmission                  -    Ingestion of aquatic plants or drinking water

                                                         containing encysted metacercaria

                   Site of localization                  -    Bile duct

                                                         -

                  Laboratory diagnosis:

                   1-  Microscopic  examination:  for  demonstration  of  operculated  egg  or  the  adult

                         worm in stool specimen, duodenal or biliary aspirate.

                      2-  Serology: using ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) to

                         detect antibodies in sera.
