While you are doing skin checks, look for any lumps on your guinea pig. If you
find unusual lumps, show them to your vet.
Teeth
Guinea pigs need to chew a lot. Make sure they have loads of hay and fresh
vegetables to eat.
You can also buy chew toys from your vet or pet store. Check your cavies’
mouth for broken front teeth and make sure they aren’t growing too long. If
their teeth become too long, they might struggle to eat properly.
The pie chart below shows the breakdown of food your guinea pig needs to
maintain a healthy diet but also, to ensure their teeth don’t get too long.
Behaviour
Rumble strutting is a way of establishing dominance in the herd and is quite
common. However, serious fighting that happens often can sometimes lead to
life-threatening injuries. If your guinea pigs are biting each other, you might
need to separate them and talk to your vet about their behaviour.
