NO B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs 33CHAPTER 3 / HOW TO DRIVE A STAKE THROUGH THE HEARTS OF THE TIME VAMPIRES OUT TO SUCK YOU DRYemotionally wrought weepers in your organization, get rid of them if you can. If you can%u2019t do that, then, personally stay away from them. There are two ways to drive them away.1. Cut to the core of their problem (which is usually glaringly obvious) and tell them what to do. This is not what they want. They don%u2019t want solutions; they want soap opera. Spoil their fun, and they%u2019ll go looking for blood elsewhere. 2. Take over the conversation by launching into a long, boring, pointless story; say: %u201cThat reminds me of a time when my Uncle Harold was in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. This story will help you. Here goes!%u201d In other words, turn into a vampire yourself and start sucking.By the way, there%u2019s a big, new industry risen, all about how to coddle and care for the extremely sensitive millennials in the workplace: seminars, TED Talks, consultants, sensitivity language. Supposedly, everything must be done differently to keep them from dissolving into emotional dust. They may be different. But the clock hasn%u2019t added any hours for you to deal with their feelings. In my book, No B.S. Guide to Ruthless Management, I have a chapter titled %u201cHire the ThickSkinned.%u201d If that means nobody under age 40, so be it. Letting yourself be surrounded by thin-skinned, emotionally needy snowflakes is extremely costly for the entrepreneur. Are There Other Time Vampires? There are almost as many different varieties of Time Vampires as there are birds or butterflies. Your productivity multiplies as you get better and better skilled at spotting them and driving stakes through their hearts.Ask yourself if you%u2019re doing something now to invite the Time Vampires in for a feast. If so, stop doing it.
