Economy:
Yamagata Prefecture is the largest producer of cher-
ries, pears, grapes, apples, peaches, melons, persim-
mons, and watermelons in Japan.
Customs and Heritage:
-Temple of Yama-dera: A temple carved into the
mountainside near Yamagata City.
KANTO (Eastern Honshu)
A geographical area of Honshu. Within its
boundaries, slightly more than 40% of the land area
is the Kanto Plain. The rest consists of the hills and
mountains that form the land borders.
The region includes: Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki,
Saitama, Tokyo, Chiba, and Kanagawa.
GUNMA
The province of Gunma is the center of horse breed-
ing for the immigrated continental peoples. The arri-
val of horses coincides with the arrival of a large mi-
gration from the mainland. The horse became a vital
part of Japanese military maneuvers, quickly displac-
ing the older Yayoi tradition of fighting on foot.
