A WRITING A POEM

POEMS are like songs without music! In a POEM, the rhythm of the words
creates its own kind of music. POEMS can be about a lot of things. Most of
them describe people, pets, events, feelings, sights, sounds, and more.

POEMS are made up of lines. The lines often have words that rhyme at the
end. This is one way to make “music” in your poem.

WARM UP Match the words on the left with the rhyming words on the right.

86 ✷ Part II My Cat Lilly
I have a cat named Lilly.

She likes acting silly.
She sits around all day.
At night she runs and plays.
I like to pet her fur.
It always makes her purr.
