                                                               the Pacific Coast. Over the next several decades, the Nez Percé continued
                                                               to build good relations with foreigners  such as American and Canadian fur
                                                               traders, settlers, and missionaries.
                                                                 However, these peaceful relationships with others came to an end when
                                                               the Nez Percé War of 1877 began between the Wallowa band of the Nez Percé
                                                               tribe and the United States.  A  Starting from 1855, the Nez Percé had signed
                                                               several treaties to give up more and more of their tribal territories to the
