For information in Crawford et al. (1981) and for unpublished
counts, the mid-points of ranges were used. Whenever 1992 c 3000
possible counts of nests were made. Alternatively, numbers 1993 c 438
of adults were counted and divided by two to estimate
pairs. A chick was assumed to represent a pair as pairs 1996 c 8677
only rear one chick (Cooper 1980). In a particular year, the 1997 c 1554
maximum estimate obtained from counts of nests, adults or
