                                                       DNA Facts

                   • Chromosomes are made of DNA

                   • Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) is the molecule that stores genetic information in

                     cells

                   • DNA is often called the blueprint of life.

                     .
                  Function of DNA

                   • DNA is responsible for carrying and transmitting the hereditary materials

or the genetic instructions from parents to offsprings.

                   • DNA also plays an important role in the production of proteins

                  DNA Structure

                     • DNA consists of two long chains (two strands) that twist around

each other, forming a double helix

                     • Each strand consists of repeating nucleotides

                     • The backbone of DNA strand consists of alternating phosphate and

                        deoxyribose sugar

                     • A nucleotide: The basic building blocks of DNA in a DNA chain consists

                        of

                                1. A nitrogenous base

                                2. A Phosphate Group

                                3. Sugar (deoxyribose)
