FedTech U adds value to the FDCC and its members through its annual workshop, which empower the participants with the following:
many technologically advanced topics including:
1. exploring presentation techniques utilizing the iPad Pro to better explain case concepts, themes, and theories.
2. using Apple TV to wirelessly present from an iPad Pro;
3. effective ways to use screen shot/screen record feature on iPad Pro,
4. utilizing TrialPad app to organize, annotate, and present evidence.
FedTech U began with Tara Cheever, co-founder of Lit Software, the company that created the
Trial Pad App, addressing the attendees. Ms. Cheever guided
the at-tendees through the
TrialPad program, which allows
the user to organize and annotate evidence and make powerful and effective presentations at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, or trial. Ms. Cheever provided tips on
using the Trial Pad App to make effective presentations including trial presentations and instructed the attendees on calling out and highlighting sections of documents, show video clips, and much more.
The group also heard from Brett Burney, a principal consultant with
1. A tool that can be used to help people, including a jury or a mediator, to better understand the case themes, theories, and strategies;
2. A shield to prevent being “out- teched” by their opponent; and
3. A sword to develop intriguing road maps that provide all of the relevant infor-mation needed to make a decision, using multi- media and graphic summaries to give to clients, juries, and other decision makers.
Prominent FDCC member, Matt Cairns, can attest to the importance and relevance of these tools to defense counsel. To assist FDCC members in developing these
skills, the FDCC Evolve Committee showcased FedTech U, a technology workshop for lawyers designed
to help FDCC members become better at making presentations.
The FedTech U course is designed to discuss various presentation technologies including a discussion
of useful iPad Pro features that
are helpful for making effective presentations. The workshop was held at the Veritext Headquarters in Philadelphia, PA.
In the weeks leading up to FedTech U this past April, the Evolve Committee prepared papers and accompanying videos introducing the attendees to the following:
the benefits of doing demonstrations and illustrations right from the iPad Pro to a big screen;
how to mirror an iPad Pro screen with just an Apple TV and an
HDMI cable; introduction to basic concepts of the iPad Pro that would most benefit attendees; and
a general overview to the TrialPad for iPad app including a basic layout of the app, features of the app including callout, highlight, draw, and laser feature.
In addition, FedTech U touched on
