 Looking Forward
with sailboats out for a most casual race dubbed the Duck Dodge.
Rent kayaks and paddle boards at the Northwest Outdoor Center on Westlake Avenue North and get out in the joy that is Lake Union on a summer day.
Cute, canopied electric boats can be rented for a floating picnic or happy hour on the lake. Bring your group and some refreshments for a fun afternoon snooping on floating homes and bobbing about.
Here’s a crazy idea. Lounge around in a floating hot tub. (hottubboats. com). I have no idea how it works but they are very popular.
One more option here is The Center for Wooden Boats where you can take sailing lessons, rent a sailing dingy or wooden row boat.
Lake Union is for the whole family!
Ferry to Winslow for Lunch and Art
The Bainbridge ferry leaves the Seattle Waterfront every hour or so. Walk on (rather than drive)
and in just 30 minutes you are on Bainbridge Island and just a short walk from the charming little town of Winslow. Winslow has many places to stop for lunch or a snack, small boutiques and
a disproportionate number of art galleries. Wander around until you are ready for your scenic ferry ride back to the city. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon! Nice family activity and really nice for adults on their own.
Bloedel Reserve Garden and Forest - My absolute favorite & highest recommendation!
This is a spectacular afternoon for garden lovers and anyone wanting to see the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest Forest! You
start with a 35 minute ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. From there it is another 15 minute drive to the 120 acre former estate of one of Seattle’s early logging families, the Bloedel’s. A relaxing amble through “tamed” forests, pastures, formal gardens, and even a Japanese garden & tea house brings you to the old family home and views of the water. The path is a loop trail. You should give
it 2 hours to enjoy at a very leisurely pace. Just beautiful!. Best for adults or older children.
Queen Anne Hill - Walks with views
Just to the north of the space
needle is Queen Anne Hill. It rises about 600 feet above the city and
its many staircases are good for building up those quads. You
can walk or Uber to the top for Seattle’s most well know vista at Kerry Park. Then stroll westward
to a sweet little hidden gem called Parson’s Garden. Continue walking the neighborhood looking at the lovely homes or find your way back to Queen Anne Avenue and walk north along its length for some great little restaurants and shops. Best for adults as its about walking and enjoying the scene.
