  FedServes: Making Things Better

FedSERVES was thrilled to partner with the Living Desert Zoo and Conservation Center for the Winter 2022 Meeting in Palm Desert.
On Monday, March 7th, Dr. James Danoff- Burg—the Director of Conversation at the Living Desert—spoke during the plenary
session and introduced the Federation to the important mission of the Living Desert Zoo, including their work on the effect of climate change on native desert plants and animals. He was accompanied by Muffintop, an adorable 6-year-old tortoise, who quickly became a fan favorite. Through the incredible generosity of our members, we were able to raise $2022 towards the care of Muffintop and her desert tortoise friends this year—2022!
On Tuesday, March 8th, new members and first-time meeting attendees joined the FedSERVES Committee on a service trip to the Living Desert Zoo. We donned our work gloves, picked up our shovels, and removed the overgrown Brickelbush from the beautiful grounds surrounding
the Zoo. While Brickelbush is native to California, it can overwhelm the landscape after it rains. Our hard work
