If you are a
new member,
congratulations
and welcome! And
if you are a more
experienced member,
we are delighted that
you have chosen to remain with the
FDCC.
It has been my pleasure to serve
as Chair of the Membership
Development Committee (“MDC”)
since 2023. Under the Bylaws, the
MDC is meant to, “welcome and
retain new and existing members
of the Federation.” I thought I
would take this opportunity to let
you know how the MDC welcomes
new members and aims to keep our
current members happy.

I instituted a “four-contact rule”
for all new members. That is, new
members now receive at least four
contacts from the FDCC within
60 days after being notified of
admission. 1
The first touch comes from
President-Elect Marc Harwell, who
welcomes every new admittee to
the FDCC.
For the second contact, I email
every new member to congratulate
and welcome them to the FDCC.
For new members who don’t
already know someone in the
organization, the FDCC can be
daunting, so my email offers all new
members a FDCC mentor.
The third contact comes through
the “Welcome to the FDCC!”
podcast that the MDC co-hosts with
the Membership Communication
Committee (“MCC”). Conceived
by MCC Co-Chair Alan Rutkin, the
podcasts showcase new members’
personalities and aspects of their
life that do not appear in their
firm bios. Last year, Alan and I
interviewed 55 new members, a
surprisingly high number of whom
were semi-professional musicians,
krewe members, and Stephen King
fans. During the podcast, we asked
about the members’ practice, then
Alan would connect the member
