Surf lifesaving Australia is an essential service focused on Australia’s peak coastal water safety, drowning prevention and rescue authority. I first became involved with SLS when my parents enrolled me into nippers at 5 years old. From there we spent every summer Sunday
developing surf, water and rescue skills for myself and to help
others.
After the completion of nippers two years ago, I went on to do my Surf Rescue Certificate and become a patrolling member of Newport Surf Club. This is where the idea came to totally redesign and recreate the iconic surf lifesaving cap for both nippers and patrolling members. Through my experience and speaking to many fellow nippers or patrolling members the short comings of the current design became obvious. I noticed extra skin damage on myself as I spent more time at the beach.
